Danny & Kipling

The voyage of poetry consists of rhyme, colorful descriptions, and the evoking of a feeling that lasts for a lifetime. The poem Danny Deever is no exception. The purpose of this paper is to illuminate for the reader what the poem writer was saying. Poems like people may take time to understand, but on rare occasions it is immediate.
The title of the poem is Danny Deever which can imply that a person's life is going to be explained to the reader. A person's life is broad, filled with good moments and bad moments, so it can be anticipated that happy, neutral, or sad events will occur with the character represented by the poem. There are two voices in chorus leading the reader deeper into the life of Danny Deever: Files-on-Parade and Color-Sergeant. Danny Deever is scheduled to be hung in the morning by the military.
The two characters speaking are soldiers that either knew him or served with him. Both expressing extreme anxiety at the event because the words dread come to mind and the description of Files-on-Parade is "looking white". According to the Cambridge University Press (2014), this phrase is related to a person
receiving a shock. Another description of this phrase would be an idiom, a grammatically strange phrase (Santa Barbara City College, 2007). The event is set to take place in the morning and the anxiety mounts for all the soldiers that are either involved or that will witness the description of this phrase would be an idiom, a grammatically strange phrase (Santa Barbara City College, 2007).  The event is set to take place in the morning and the anxiety mounts for all the soldiers that are either involved or that will witness the execution.  Apparently, Danny Deever was stripped of his rank after shooting a fellow soldier and killing him. This act has disgraced the men that served under him which are mostly present for the execution in the morning.
Beer is presented as a source of enjoyment except during the middle and end of the poem. Beer becomes the last bitter companion of the dying and it is the numbing agent used by the soldiers after Danny finally dies. The Hs seem to go missing from the beginning of many words within the poem, however, if the reader is paying close attention the word and meaning can be comprehended. Some of those words included: is instead of his and allow instead of hollow.
There are references to the black sun or the sun going black which can mean a dark day for everyone because of the hanging. No one seems to want to see Danny Deever die, which means he had a profound affect that was more positive than his one negative act. The poem is a story about the events that happen to Danny Deever.
The main idea of the poem can be inferred that no matter the wrongs of an individual the good he or she has done will still make an impression of the people that knew him or her. The name of the characters telling the story is related to the army Files-on-Parade and Color-Sergeant. Kipling has truly taken the reader on a voyage of personal experiences and the tragic ending of a man's life.
